Argon/Carbon Dioxide – ARCgas’s ARCGold Blends

Argon/carbon dioxide (Ar/CO2) blends are a cornerstone for many welding applications and are a key part of our industrial gas supply. These versatile blends are primarily used in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), also known as MIG welding. The argon provides a stable arc and excellent bead appearance, while the carbon dioxide increases the arc temperature and penetration, leading to stronger, more reliable welds. In Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), specifically with gas-shielded wires, these blends also provide the necessary shielding to protect the molten weld pool from atmospheric contaminants. This dual-purpose use makes these blends essential for fabricators, manufacturers, and welders who demand high-quality results for a wide range of projects, whether they’re using GMAW or gas-shielded FCAW processes.

Core Applications

Argon and carbon dioxide blends are commonly used in welding applications for structural steel, agricultural equipment, and machinery. Lower carbon dioxide concentrations are ideal for pulsed arc or spray arc welding, while higher concentrations (above 20%) are better suited for short arc welding and certain gas-shielded flux-cored wires.
